There's a lovely trail in West Lafayette, Indiana that spans a little more than four miles, and its asphalt surface and even terrain makes it an ideal place for your whole family to enjoy. Whether you're pushing a stroller along the route, riding a bike, or walking your dog on a leash, the Cattail Trail can be enjoyed by everyone!
You can access the trailhead at Pickett Memorial Park where there's plenty of free parking. From here, you'll cross the rolling hills alongside a local golf course before you continue northwest, where you'll cover streets with rows of picturesque homes.
Before long, you'll come to a portion of the path that's lined with a picket fence, and soon you'll come across the Purdue Dairy Farm and another beautiful golf course. The Cattail Trail continues along a section of open spaces and lots of green grass just before you reach the Celery Bog Nature Area. There's a dog water fountain as well as waste disposal supplies here, so it's an excellent place to stop with your pet. If you'd like, you can connect to other trails from here if you'd like to go for a longer walk.
When you continue along the trail from the Celery Bog Nature Area, you'll arrive at the Lilly Nature Center. Here, you'll find more paths, paved and unpaved, that you can also explore with your dog on a leash. Remember to clean up after your pet along the way!
You can continue to get to know more of the area by carrying on along the path until you reach Purdue University. In addition to the school, there are several other historic buildings in the heart of downtown West Lafayette that are worth checking out.
Exploring West Lafayette by walking the Cattail Trail is a wonderful way to get to know the city and spend some "paw-lity" time with your pooch!
