Description

The Whitewater Gorge Trail in Richmond is a pawesome tree-lined pathway with several points of interest. Stretching from Veteran's Park in the north to Test Road in the south, this paved route includes views of the gorge cliffs, a waterfall, a historical section, and fossil sites. You and your special pal can get your exercise while enjoying the variety of habitats here.

To navigate the full length of the trail,  start from the parking area on West Industries Road and head south. There are several other parking spots along the way if you want to enter mid-path. Across from Springwood Park, you'll pass Thistlewaite Falls. This location is known for fossil discoveries. See what you can discover, but don't remove any artifacts.

The next area you and your fur-baby will see is the Weir Dam. This historic structure once generated power to run a flour mill, and later, it provided electricity for the town. Soon after the dam, you'll enter the Starr-Gennett historic area, home to buildings like the Gennett Recording Studio and the Starr Piano Company. From here, you'll continue across the East Fork of the Whitewater River and hike through the woods to the Test Mill Ruins at the southern trailhead.

City ordinances require that you keep your dogs secure on a short cord or lead while using the trail. Be careful to yield to others using this pathway by moving to the side of the trail. Have waste bags with you to remove your pup's messes, and remember to bring water.

Spend a day hunting for fossils and viewing scenic areas when you hike with your pooch on the Whitewater Gorge Trail! This pawesome pathway wanders through a river valley with limestone and shale cliffs and past some historical landmarks. There are nine bridges along this route, and you're also bound to spot some birds nesting along the gorge.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
