Description

Deem Hills Recreation Area is a scenic 1,000-acre park that’s perfect for hikes with your pup! This desert park is famous for its unique volcanic rock formations and stunning cactuses. In total, there are 11.3 miles of trails to explore in this park, and pups are welcome to explore them with you on leash.

One of the most pawpular trails in Deem Hills is the 5.7-mile Deem Hills Circumference Trail. This trail begins at the park’s West Trailhead, and it takes you in a long loop around the park. As you’re walking, you’ll climb up 306 feet, and you’ll get amazing views of the CAP canal and the mountains surrounding Phoenix. You’ll also go past tons of beautiful rock formations. You and your pup will both have a great time trekking here!

If you and your pup are looking for another hike that offers beautiful views, check out the 1.5-mile Deem Hills Ridgeline Trail. This steep trail has an elevation gain of 353 feet, and it takes you to the highest point in Deem Hills. Here, you’ll get pawrific views of Ludden Mountain and Downtown Phoenix. Be sure to spend some time relaxing and enjoying the view here before you head back down to the start of the trail.

If you want to go on a shorter and less strenuous hike, try the 1.6-mile CAP Road Trail. This trail starts at the East Trailhead, and it runs parallel to the scenic CAP Canal. The 0.6-mile Basalt Trail is another pawesome option for a shorter hike. This trail passes by huge basalt rock formations that formed millions of years ago.

Deem Hills Recreation Area is a furiffic desert park that’s great for treks with your furry best friend. Be sure to bring water and doggy bags with you, and have a good time hiking here!

There’s very little shade in the recreation area. Make sure to give your pup plenty of water as you’re walking. Also, be sure to look out for rattlesnakes while you’re hiking.
