Description

The Goose Pond Colony Nature and Walking Trail is a beautiful two-mile trail that takes you through a wooded area and along a beautiful river and lake. This paved trail is located in Goose Pond Colony, which is a 326-acre public resort that's owned and operated by the city. Dogs are welcome to join you on this pawsitively amazing trail on-leash.

To begin your hike, head to Goose Pond Colony’s parking lot, which is located right next to their amphitheater. Restrooms are also available here. When you start walking on the Goose Pond Colony Trail, you’ll go through a beautiful wooded area that’s filled with native trees as well as scenic open fields. The trail also passes by many of Goose Pond Colony’s cabins.

As you walk on the trail, you’ll pass two picturesque bodies of water: the Tennessee River and Guntersville Lake. There are plenty of benches along the trail where you can rest and enjoy the views of the water. You can also go fishing with your pup in the lake if you’d like.

Many birdwatchers also use this trail because the lake and river are home to a wide variety of birds. This is especially true in winter when migrating birds flock to the area. Some of the birds you may see while you’re walking include bald eagles, common goldeneyes, canvasbacks, hooded mergansers, eastern kingbirds, cormorants, indigo buntings, loons, and plenty of geese. As you’re hiking, keep your eyes peeled for the birdhouses located all along the trail — you never know what bird might be nesting in there! The birdhouses were installed by the local Eagle Scouts, so don't let your buddy get too close!

The Goose Pond Colony Nature and Walking Trail is a furrific, scenic trail that takes you through peaceful woodlands and provides great water views. Remember to bring some doggy bags so you can clean up after your pup while you’re walking, and enjoy trekking on this fun-filled trail!
