Description

Hardscrabble Wilderness Area is a furrific park that’s filled with trails you and your pup will love! There are seven trails in total in the park, and these trails take you through a scenic forest and past lovely creeks. This wilderness area is a pawpular place for locals to take their dogs for on-leash treks.

There are two parking lots available at the Hardscrabble Wilderness Area: a small lot on Hardscrabble Road and a larger lot on Dogwood Lane. If you park at the Hardscrabble Road lot, the first trail you’ll see is the 0.5-mile Hardscrabble Road Entrance Trail. If you enter at the Dogwood Lane Parking Lot at the southern end of the park, you’ll first see the 0.1-mile Dogwood Lane Entrance Trail. Both of these trails connect with the 1.5-mile White Trail, the longest trail in the park.

The White Trail takes you up a series of rolling hills with easy inclines, and you’ll also pass a few gurgling brooks where your pup can splash around on hot days! The majority of the trail goes through a forest that’s filled with oak, tulip, hickory, red cedar, and black cherry trees. You may also get to see some of the area’s native wildlife, including deer, turtles, and squirrels.

If you’d like to extend your hike, the White Trail intersects with many of the wilderness area’s other trails, including the 1.0-mile Red Trail, the 0.3-mile Yellow Trail, and the 0.2-mile Orange Trail. The White Trail also connects with the 0.3-mile Blue Trail, a loop trail that takes you around another peaceful stream.

Hardscrabble Wilderness Area is a pawsitively amazing woodland area filled with trails that you and your pup are both sure to love! Remember to bring water, and doggy bags with you. Have a barking good time trekking through this picturesque wilderness area!
