Why not take your pup hiking at the Harvest Square Recreational Preserve? This 69-acre Land Trust of North Alabama property has a network of natural-surface pathways that you can use to get some exercise. You and your buddy can walk along level pathways as you enjoy the scenic vistas. There are two ponds and five different trails here for you to explore. If you have a license, you can bring your pole with you to do a little fishing when you visit. Watch for deer, raccoon, beaver, wood ducks, and other wildlife on your trek.
All the trails start near the parking lot on Allyson Sadie Boulevard. You can start on the Beaver Dam Trail and follow Dry Creek through the trees to the northeast corner of Terry Pond. Watch out for the beaver lodge as you hike here. This pathway continues along the northern edge of the holding pond. There are a few benches here where you and your pooch can sit and enjoy the view. Loop back to your starting point by connecting with the Eagle Trail, which goes along the edge of the water. The Senator trail heads around Turner Pond and is the longest route in the preserve. Stroll by the reservoir then through a field on the eastern border of the property before circling back to the trailhead. If you're interested in a quiet walk in the woods, check out the Dry Creek Trail in the southeastern part of the facility.
The land trust lets owners bring dogs on a leash. There are no restrooms on site. Bring water with you and remove any waste that your pup leaves behind.Â
The trail system at Harvest Square Recreational Preserve offers about 2.3 miles of natural-surface pathways for you and your furry friend to use. The routes are all level and easy to navigate.
