The trail starts off at the Johnson Ferry Trailhead North, along a gravel road exiting the northeast corner of the parking lot. The trail quickly reaches an intersection where you can stay right to do the loop counter clockwise and start with the portion along the river, or go left to do the loop clockwise. This trail is quite pawpular among pet-parents, and some choose to unleash their dogs along the trail. Keep in mind that they are technically required to be leashed, and you may receive a fine if you choose to do let your pup run free.
If you start the trail by heading right along the river, you'll notice that there is a dense forest lining the riverbank. You'll be able to catch occasional views of the wide Chattahoochee River. There are some benches along the way, where you and your pal can relax and enjoy the views. Many trail dogs leap at the opportunity to dip their paws in the river, and romp around in the shallow creek. After veering way from the river, you'll come across a rock outcrop and small, pretty waterfall. The return heading back towards the trailhead features marches, a bridge, and a boardwalk.Â
Doggos are more than welcome along the trail, and you're likely to encounter some other furry friends. Please be sure your pal stays leashed, respects all other creatures, and is picked up after. Bring your own clean up bags, and water to share.
Johnson Ferry Trail is an easy way to enjoy some fresh air and exercise with your four-legged friend.Â
