Admission to Kings Mountain Hiking Trail is $2 per adult over 15 years of age, and $1.25 for seniors. Pups are free! After you enter the park, take a right towards the lovely Lake Crawford. Here you'll find restrooms, and the Kings Mountain Hiking Trailhead. The trail itself features rolling hills and granite outcroppings, winds through hardwood forests, and along a stream where your pup can cool their paws. It then heads towards the historic Kings Mountain battlefield. It's not a technically challenging trail, aside from it's length and a few tricky creek crossings. You may want to wear waterproof shoes, and bring a towel to avoid muddy paw prints in your car!
You can either choose to set aside an entire day to complete this hike, or break it up over a couple days and spend the night under the stars with your best pal. Along the trail, there are several backcountry campsites. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time, and grab a map before you hit the trails so you can be sure of their location. If you decide to just make a day of it, note that the park's hours are 8 AM to 6 PM, and during daylight savings, 7 AM to 9 PM.
There are many other things in this park to keep you and your pup entertained, such as fishing, paddling, picnicking, and horseback ridding. Dogs are allowed in most outdoor areas of the park, as long as they stay leashed, picked up after, and remain respectful to all humans and creatures.
Kings Mountain Hiking Trail is a furtastic way to spend some quality time outdoors with your doggo!
