There isn’t much about the word ‘outside’ that your pup doesn’t like! So, you might as well head out today and take them for a hike! The L B Houston Trail in Dallas, Texas, is a great place to spend some quality time together and get in a bit of exercise and fun at the same time.
Located just east of California Crossing Park, across the Trinity River, in the northwest portion of the city, you will find three trailheads where you can leave your car. One located at 1366 California Crossing, one at 10152 Wildwood Drive and one on Sandy Lane. Pick your location to start and head out!
There is plenty of exercise to be had on this 6.5-mile hike. The loop trail meanders around, crossing the railroad tracks at a couple of points and it follows the river for a while. The trail is popular for hikers as well as bicyclists and is perfect for any pup-ability as the path is made of a natural footing and is mostly level throughout, with only an 88-foot elevation gain overall. You will be hiking through a mostly forested area with a few clearing spots along the way. There is plenty of shade, which keeps your hike on the cooler side and picnic tables have been placed strategically for your enjoyment and offer a great place to rest your weary feet and paws!
It is important to always keep your pup on leash here, as per city ordinance, and cleaning up after them is a great way to keep this trail pup-friendly. Fido will appreciate numerous stops for water, which you should pack plenty of since there are no drinking fountains along the way. Restrooms are also not available along this trail.
You and your pawtastic pup will thoroughly enjoy taking a hike on the L B Houston Trail in the lovely city of Dallas, Texas. Head over there today!
