Looking for a pawsome place to walk your pooch? Consider taking your furry BFF for a stroll on one of the trails of the Lullwater Preserve located on the Emory University’s North Decatur campus. These furrific trails will capture your pup’s full attention!
This 154 acre preserve is a wooded haven. Even though it’s
near a busy section of the city, your doggo will feel miles away. Start your
adventure on President’s Loop. Your history loving hound will be interested to
know that this trail passes a 1926 Tudor Mansion. Years ago, this impressive
abode was home to Walter Candler, a son of Coca Cola’s founder. Today, it
houses the president of Emory University. Since this trail is only .8 miles,
your doggo will pawbably want to continue their walk.
The aptly named Lake Loop circles Candler Lake. Your
pooch will absolutely love trotting around this delightful path. On the north
end of the lake, there is a dam and spillway. The rushing water once flowed
into a powerhouse that provided electricity for the Candler estate. Not much is
left of the powerhouse, but it’s still worth checking out. A wood and steel
bridge allows you and your pooch to cross the water and continue your hike.
The third official
trail is the Hill Loop. It runs about 1.2 miles around the pawperty. Your pup’s
nose will get right to work as they track all the different scents of the
forest. If your doggo is quiet, you may even see an owl or two. Of course, you
can mix and match the loops to create a route that is just right for your four
legged companion. Be sure to have plenty of water on hand, and don’t forget the
clean up bags.
Make no mistake, your pup will go mutts over the Lullwater
Preserve Trails!
