Duluth, Georgia is the place to be if you are looking for a great hike that seems away from it all, but just minutes from major city conveniences. Visit the McDaniel Farm Park for a day’s worth of outdoor hiking fun for you and your pup.Â
Offering about 3 miles of trails, you and Fido will have no problem enjoying the day here. The trailheads begin at the park’s entrance and lead you into the forests, pastures and fields of a once working historic farm site. The 2.3 miles of paved trails interconnect and wind throughout the park with other short dirt spur trails cutting paths across and in between others. It is a maze of choices which will allow you to explore all day.
Almost flat and easily traversed by any fitness-level pup, grab your leash and let Fido choose your course throughout these nature trails. Learn a little while you are here by reading the informative bulletin signage at the park entrance or the placards which are placed along the trails. Especially fun are the pup-friendly guided tours on the weekends which offer you more of a detailed narrative for your hike. There is a nominal $5 fee per person for these docent-led tours.
Bicyclists will enjoy using the paved trails, so pups must be kept on leash. Joggers and hikers are allowed anywhere on the park’s property, making for a rather full day of exciting adventure. After your hike, you can explore the various buildings left from a bygone era, such as a share-cropper’s cabin, barn and farmhouse. Restrooms and drinking fountains are provided at the main entrance, and plenty of benches are spread along the trails so you can let Fido rest his weary paws.Â
Relax and enjoy your surroundings with your fur-ever friend by your side at McDaniel Farm Park Trails.
