Description

The Newtown Park Loop is a 1.2-mile trail that is located in Newtown Park. While the park features many amenities for humans such as playing fields, playgrounds and picnic shelters, the paved walking trail is what your fur-baby is hankering for! The trailhead is located at the large parking area which is generally wide open unless there's a sports event happening on a weekend afternoon, so get there early for the best spot.

One of the trail's most enjoyed attractions is the pond with its fountain, fed by a trickling stream that the path follows for awhile. Expect to see wildlife here, especially river birds. Golden eagles may make a brief appearance, too! The usual river amphibians scoot or plod about in or near the water, making the warm rocks their own spa! Most of the trail is inside a deeply wooded area, and squirrels and chipmunks make their presence known, while songbirds serenade you and Fido as you stroll through.

One of the lovely attractions on the trail is a short tunnel whose walls are painted sky blue, with realistic tree paintings accompanying you and your furry friend to the end. This is not one of those foreboding, dark tunnels because it's full of light and is short. In the spring, the azaleas and dogwoods are furtastic to see and smell, and there are plenty of benches for resting or having a quick snack. Dog waste stations are provided, so please remember to use them. Arf!

When you and your champion wagger have finished the trail, amble over to the Newtown Dream Dog Park where you'll find agility equipment, a hydrant fountain, lots of shade and room for running. There's also a smaller area for dogs that are timid or diminutive, like Bichons, Chihuahuas and Min-Pins.

While this may be considered by some as a walk rather than a hike, it's truly a pawrfect, pleasant place to get outside with your pup and the rest of the family!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
