Description

Looking for a new place to take Fido? Grab your backpack, water, and snacks then head over to Owl’s Head Trail. Situated, in the gorgeous Adirondack Mountains, this short trail is ideal for those with little time or families with two legged children in tow.

Once your doggo is all leashed up, begin your journey to the summit. Delve deep into the thick forest and start making the climb. This goldilocks trail is not too steep, not too flat, but just right. Your pup should be able to handle it with ease. Plan on doing a little bit of bouldering. Nothing too serious, just some large rocks that keep things interesting. See if you can spot the wild blueberry bushes. If you come at the right time, this natural treat will make your hike even sweeter!

Before you know it, you and your four legged hiking companion will reach the summit. From here, gaze out at the tree covered mountains. Pitchoff, Giant, and Hurricane Mountains will all be in view. Sit back and relax on the massive boulder at the top. Pull out your delicious trail treats and water and have a pupperific picnic with your pooch. Just don’t forget to bring some biscuits for your pal!

To find the trailhead, head southwest on State Highway 73 then turn left onto Head Road. A little ways down this windy road you will find a small parking lot with a trail marker. Since the trail runs through private property, it’s critical that all visitors are respectful and follow the regulations so people and pets can continue to enjoy this pawsome hike. To this end, carry some clean up bags and always pick up after your pooch. In addition, adhere to the posted hours. Do note that the road is blocked and not accessible during the weekends.

Your furry friend will agree, a hike on the Owl’s Head Trail is time well spent!
