If you and your pup are needing to get a bit of fresh air, but don’t have too much time in your schedule to do so, head over to Piedmont Ridge Trail in the heart of Dallas, Texas. You and your pup will love getting out into the fresh air in a beautiful part of town. You can pick up the trailhead in Grover Keeton Park, where you will find ample parking. Pack up your pup, grab their leash, and get going!
The Piedmont Ridge Trail will meander you through a forested area, right in the middle of the booming metropolis. You will escape the sights of the city without having to drive too far to find it. This lovely trail will take you 1.3 miles on an out-and-back journey. It is best suited for a fairly-active pup as this hike is rated as moderate. There is a bit of an incline over the entire distance, and it is also a bit rocky in some spots. The natural footing is easy on the paws however, and if you keep your pace slow, most pups will do just fine. There is plenty of shade to be had from the tall trees, and be sure to take advantage of the bench positioned to see the Dallas skyline, especially in the fall when the leaves reveal a greater view. Fall is also a great time to hike here to see the spectacularly-colored foliage!
There are no restrooms along this trail so be sure to plan accordingly. Your furry friend must remain on leash throughout your hike, and it is best to pack clean up bags, and plenty of water, as there are no drinking fountains either.
Spending even a short amount of quality time with your pup makes for a pawtastic day. Head over to the Piedmont Ridge Trail today!
During the summer months, bug spray is highly recommended. Also, make sure to keep your pup well-hydrated, even for this short hike.
