Description

Prospect Park is a beautiful, forest-filled park located in the heart of Brooklyn! This pawesome 526-acre park is famous for its picturesque waterfalls, sprawling forest, and lovely lakes. You can see all these stunning sights on the park’s four puptastic trails.

One of the most pawpular trails in Prospect Park is the 0.5-mile Peninsula Trail. This trail is located in the southern end of the park, and it takes you past a beautiful lake and by a large meadow. Pups are allowed to go off-leash in the Peninsula meadow from 5 AM-9 AM and 9 PM-1 AM. If you need to clean up after your pup while you’re walking, doggy bag dispensers are available throughout the park.

If you’d like to hike through the forest with your pup, check out the 0.75-mile Midwood Trail. This trail begins by the Prospect Park Audubon Center in the center of the park, and it takes you through one of the oldest remaining forests in Brooklyn. As you’re hiking along the trail, you’ll walk by some of the largest trees in the park, and you’ll also pass a scenic ravine.

Many people also enjoy hiking on the 0.5-mile Waterfall Trail. This trail also begins near the Prospect Park Audobon Center, and it takes you past beautiful Fallkill Falls and through a scenic forest area.

If you’re driving to Prospect Park, be aware that parking is limited. There’s some street parking available near the park, and there’s a small lot by Litchfield Villa in the northern end of the park. Be sure to bring clean up bags, and water to share!

Prospect Park is a furrific park that’s home to an indigenous forest, stunning lakes, and off-leash areas your pup is sure to love. You and your dog will always have fun when you’re in Prospect Park!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.

Cautions & Considerations

Poison ivy grows in Prospect Park—be on the lookout for this plant as you’re hiking. There are also ticks, so it’s a good idea to check your dog for these insects after you leave the park. Also, be aware that pups aren’t allowed on bridle trails, on the park’s ballfields, or in the park’s playgrounds.
