Shagbark Nature Preserve
The Shagbark Nature Preserve is your ticket to strolling fun in the village of Round Lake Heights, Illinois. Located in the northeast corner of the state, this preserve is part of the former Carl Englehart Farm located here.
Shagbark Nature Preserve offers a trail for hikers and bicyclists in a low-key, residential area, so it is the perfect getaway to spend some quality time with your fur-ever friend without being too far away from big-town amenities. You can immerse yourself in nature with a stroll on this pup-friendly trail that offers shade from large, mature trees. The ground is covered in small bark-chips and is relatively level, so it can be traversed by all pup-abilities. It is especially welcoming to elderly pups and those dogs needing to lose a bit around the middle!
It is the perfect place to be in the summer or winter months, as the trail is maintained year-round for your and your fur-ever friend’s enjoyment. Take a leisurely stroll with Fido on leash and relax on the provided benches stationed throughout the entire length of the trail. It is quiet here which allows some time to reflect and enjoy each other’s company. Be sure to visit the small pond on site and let your pup marvel at the ducks and geese that live here.
Other amenities provided just outside the trail include a playground for the kiddies and various courts and fields for the sport enthusiasts. You will also find restrooms and drinking fountains on site so all you need to bring is clean up bags to keep this trail pup-tastic!Â
