Description

Are you interested in spending the day in the great outdoors with your fur-ever friend in Alabama? Then look no further than Smith Lake Park. It offers plenty of hiking trails just waiting for your pup and you to enjoy.

Pick up the trailhead at the main entrance to this 150-acre park where you will find gravel trails that wind throughout the park. Each trail has a color name and offers a variety of lengths, so you will never get bored. Why not start with the Red Trail which meanders alongside the 21,000 + acre Lewis Smith Lake? This is a dedicated hiking trail and is not available for shared use.

The other 5 trails, such as the Brown, Black, Blue and Green Trails, welcome hikers and bicyclists and clock in just under 3 miles each. The Green Trail offers a straight path. Or take the Orange Trail if you like twisting and turning and lots of bends in your journey. This is the shortest trail at just under 2 miles in length.

They have a great system here to keep people and pups safe on the multi-use trails. If you are a bicyclist, travel counterclockwise on your trek, and if you are a hiker, you must walk in a clockwise direction! If you would like to bike but don’t have one, rent one at the main entrance to the park and try it out! All trails are meant to be traveled in a one-way direction and are suitable for most pups. But please consider the distance before you begin.

Restrooms and picnic tables, as well as swimming locations for people, are other amenities found here. Boating and fishing opportunities abound, and your pup is welcome to enjoy either sport!

Smith Lake Park Hiking/Biking Trails are your ticket to puptastic fun!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.

Cautions & Considerations
These natural dirt paths can become very muddy after a heavy rain. The hiker's only Red Trail is your best option in the rainy season.
