The Metamora neighborhood in Franklin, Michigan welcomes you and your pup! The town is situated between the towns of Oxford and Lapeer. Metamora gets its meaning from the Native American derivative "among the hills", so be prepared to travel up and down a few small hills along your way. You will pass by many different residential areas, some containing condominiums, apartment complexes, and well-manicured lawns of beautiful homes lining each and every street. Take in the sights and grab a bite at one of Metamora's local favorite eateries, some of which may have outdoor seating for your pup to join you as you relax and enjoy your day out.

Franklin has a tendency to get extremely cold in the winter, so you'll want to be prepared for snow, sleet, ice, and other dangerous conditions where being out and about may not be ideal. However, summers may present some better weather for walking, so take advantage of those warmer days when they come around.

Metamora means "among the hills" so the terrain does contain some hills that you may have to navigate throughout your walks. This may not be ideal for a pup who has joint issues or an elderly dog that can't quite keep up with heavier exercise. The good news is that the city streets are well-maintained, clean and safe, making it fairly easy to find the right routes to take as you travel. As you explore the neighborhood streets, you will pass by some of Metamora's local businesses like the Metamora Market and the yummy smells of Greg's Restaurant & Lounge on Lapeer Road. Civic pride is alive and well in Metamora. There are also plenty of places to stop and rest like benches and parks which can provide some softer terrain underfoot. However, you'll likely not run out of opportunities to explore a variety of terrain as Michigan tends to keep things interesting.

While this area is mostly devoid of dedicated greenways which allow both you and your pup some space to roam, it does have a few country clubs around the outer perimeter which you may be able to explore. Some may or may not allow dogs and you may need to double check to see what you need to gain access to the grounds, so they might not be ideal for dog walking.

Alternatively, you can head just south of Walter P. Reuther Freeway and venture to Pebble Creek Park which can provide you and your pup with some space to roam. While Pebble Creek is not much more than a large, open field, there is a covered area that is great for parties and picnics, so you should still be able to find ample shade and opportunities to relax while your pup meets and greets others in this open green area.
