Wag! Walkers know Central
Central Edgewater is a neighborhood located in Bergen County in New Jersey. During the 1800s, it served as a base for ferry service. Today, after a great deal of cleanup, the area is mainly residential with a large retail sector to serve the rapidly growing population that has moved here. In the older areas of the neighborhood, you will find a lot of single-family housing as well as condominiums and apartments. Malls, restaurants, and retail businesses offer just about everything you could possibly want and you can look forward to a cup of coffee along the way. Fluffy’s amenities are not quite as convenient, but still available inside the neighborhood. Whether it is for a nail clipping or a few shots, you should be able to find anything your pooch needs.
Weather in Edgewater is typical of New Jersey. Cold, snowy winters might make walking miserable and hot, humid summers may force you to go for early morning walks.
What is the terrain like in Central?
Central Edgewater is fairly flat, but if you stray to the west, there are some well-defined hills that you may or may not wish to avoid. If you are not up for a hike up the hill, simply stay in a north or south direction and you will have simple terrain that won’t be difficult to navigate. If you are up for a challenge, heading west out of the neighborhood will take a bit of extra effort and make a great workout.

A lot of the housing in Central is multifamily and sidewalks have been worked into the landscape. With grass and sidewalks, it is possible to walk on hotter days without worrying about your pup's sensitive feet. All in all, it is not a bad place to walk your dog, especially when you factor in being right off the Hudson River where cool breezes can keep walks from being stifling because of the heat.
How many greenways are there in Central?
Depending on where you are in Central Edgewater, you may find that the development you live in has provided ample greenways. Many of the new developments have put in grass, trees, and ample walkways for you to take your pup for a walk. In fact, some of the communities have dog parks so your pup can walk around without a leash and get a bit of exercise. If you are not so fortunate to live in a community with these great amenities or just need a change of scenery, Central Edgewater has a 167-acre park with a dog park.
The James Braddock North Hudson County Park has everything that a pampered pooch could possibly want including a place to run, lots of grass, a lake, trees, and trails. If you are feeling adventurous, you can also try the Palisades Park Recreation Area to the north. It is 12 miles long and is filled with hiking trails.
