Morris in Pennsauken, New Jersey is an industrial, commercial area, surrounded by residential suburban neighborhoods. The industrial areas are not pedestrian-friendly, however, residential areas are pleasant for walking and there are lots of shops, restaurants, and services along main thoroughfares and at the nearby shopping mall in Cinnaminson to the northeast of the community. Depending on where you live in the region, you may be able to walk to local businesses.
Walking in the area, you and your dog will get to experience all four seasons. Winters can be cool and snow is a definite possibility, so dress warmly. Springs can be pretty rainy, so a raincoat and umbrella may be required, especially if your dog doesn't like to get wet. When walking in the summer, hot and humid weather is common, so if you have a long-haired dog, or a dog that is susceptible to the heat, you many want to avoid walking when it is too hot!
The terrain here has some slight rises and there are some gently sloping hills, although they usually do not present a problem for pups and pedestrians. A couple of large freeways and associated bridges are located in Morris including the Betsy Ross Toll Bridge and the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge which bring plenty of traffic through the area. These roadways are not great for walking, but there are other avenues available.
Morris has plenty of natural areas and parks often associated with the river and creek areas. Wesley Gaines Park has sports facilities and fields and a picnic area with lots of trees and pedestrian paths running through the forested areas for shady walks with your pooch.
Dredge Retention Basin on the Delaware River has a large natural area and Palmyra Cove Nature Park on its northeast border. This area has tons of greenway trails running through it that you can enjoy. When hiking in this wilderness area, you should keep your dog on a leash so you don't lose your pup in the dense bush and winding paths.
The Bow Wow Dog Park is located just a little south of Morris if you want your dog to be able to enjoy some free play in an off-leash area. This park has separate areas for large and small dogs, so canines of all sizes can safely play!
