New Jersey weather varies with the season and you will need to dress accordingly when walking your dog in the neighborhood. Spring rain and occasional thunderstorms require rain jackets and umbrellas to keep you and your dog dry. Summer is hot and humid and sweltering days can be uncomfortable. Fall in New Jersey provides beautiful dry, sunny weather that is perfect for daily walks with your dog and winter can be a bit unpleasant. Although warmer than some inland locations, Teaneck still experiences cold weather in the winter and sometimes even snowy conditions. You will need good outerwear and footwear for walking with your pooch.
The terrain is not as hilly as other Teaneck neighborhoods, although there are some rises that require some effort to climb when traversing the area. Residential streets are peaceful and shady with tree-lined boulevards which are ideal for strolling with your furry friend. Some residential areas do not have sidewalks and when hiking with your hound in these communities you'll want to keep your dog leashed.
Many homes in the community have unique architectural features and are very picturesque with lots of character and mature landscaping, trees, and lawns. Parks are located mostly along the river in this region and recreational fields and facilities are well distributed in the area.
The Teaneck Greenway runs along the Hackensack River, through area parks, and past Indian Pond. This beautiful greenway is ideal for walking your dog on a leash and viewing local wildlife while enjoying the adjacent waterway.
The Matthew Feldman Nature preserve on the northern tip of the region provides 15 acres of natural treed property with a short greenway. Further trail development is planned for the future in this beautiful area. Elsewhere, Clarence W. Breck Park has soccer pitches with open areas and nearby Tokoloka Park has 11 acres of passive use parkland with a gently sloping greenway to enjoy with your dog on a leash. Andreas Park is located along the river and has treed greenways to enjoy under the shade.
Veterans Memorial Park is located further east and offers lots of developed recreational areas that are not accessible to dogs, but paved walkways on the landscaped property provides greenways for leashed pets.
