The neighborhood itself occupies the southern parts of the island, known as Rulers Bar Hassock, or Broad Channel Island by the locals. As previously mentioned, Broad Channel has a great balance between the residential neighborhood and the wildlife refuges and parks which are home to the area’s animal population. This means that you’re never far from a greenway that will provide you with enough grass, coastal views, and wide-open space to satisfy your pooch’s animal instincts. If you head south down Cross Bay Boulevard, you’ll encounter two parks. Sunset Cove Park is the first of the two and is home to a couple of sports fields and a recreational area. The next park you’ll come across is the Broad Channel American Park. Described by the locals as a romantic place with stunning views over the water, it's ideal for sunrise or sunset walks.
North of the island is where you’ll find the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. There is a large inlet here known as West Pond, providing you and your pooch with plenty of waterside views that will never fail to amaze.
