Buffalo Street is a major retail thoroughfare in the heart of the town of Hamburg, New York. Located south of the city of Buffalo, Hamburg is an area with a balanced mixture of shopping, companies, and green spaces. Walking is easily accessible along Buffalo Street as there are plenty of sidewalks and crosswalks, however, it is a busy traffic road and caution must be taken by dog walkers on this street. The retail area includes shops, businesses, and restaurants, some of which are dog-friendly. Two nearby parks, Woodview Avenue Park and Hampton Brooks Woods Wildlife Management Area, provide plenty of space to walk your dog.

The weather in spring, summer, and fall can alternate rapidly at times from cool and rainy to pleasant to humid and hot. Appropriate attire will depend on the weather conditions at the time of the walk. Winters can be particularly harsh and cold, so take precautions before walking during inclement weather.

Buffalo Street is mostly flat terrain and is a highly walkable area full of shops, cafes, and businesses. Because of the traffic and amount of companies on this street, there are many access points for pedestrians and drivers. Dog walkers on this street should take precaution because of the number of vehicles on it and the higher rate of cars pulling in and out of side streets and driveways. Dog walkers should wear bright, reflective clothing and walk in clear view of drivers.

There are two restaurants on Buffalo Street that are dog-friendly and provide a fun setting for a quick food break. Carte Blanche has four tables in the front of the restaurant exclusively for customers with dogs. For a fast food lunch or dinner, John & Mary's Pizza and Subs provides five outdoor tables for four-footed patrons. The area is bound to have something to appeal to any visitor.

Because Buffalo Street is so commercial, there aren't any viable greenways on the main road. However, there are two parks within a ten-minute drive of Buffalo Street that provide plenty of green spaces to explore with a dog. Woodview Avenue Park is a smaller area with a parking lot, playground, and picnic tables. Green space is plentiful here and the park abuts Eighteen Mile Creek for a nice walk along the water.

Hampton Brook Woods Wildlife Management Area is a state-protected woodland area that covers 78 acres of forest along with smaller sections of brushland and wetland. Dogs are allowed in this area but must be on-leash at all times due to the proximity of various forms of wildlife. There are designated trails to walk on in the park, but be aware that there are other dog walkers, hikers, and runners who use these paths as well.
