Including your dog in activities isn’t always easy. Sometimes you need to carry items or answer a call, all while holding on to your pup’s leash and making sure they don’t chase after a squirrel. Hands-free leashes let you have more freedom while still maintaining control over your dog, whether you’re running errands, exploring trails, or just walking around the neighborhood with your best friend.
When choosing a hands-free leash, look for one that’s easy to use and comfortable for both you and your pup. Safety features and material quality are important too.
Here are five hands-free dog leashes that we think pet parents should check out, including two that we personally use and recommend!
Overview
Maxbone GO! With Ease Hands Free Leash
Modern and minimal, the Maxbone GO! With Ease Hands Free Leash offers functionality without sacrificing style.
This furbulous leash features two components: a human waist belt/crossbody strap and the leash itself, which clips on both ends. It can also be used as a regular leash by detaching it from the waist belt/crossbody strap and connecting one end to the D-ring on the leash itself.
Both the belt/strap and leash are adjustable and made with custom woven nylon webbing.
The Maxbone GO! With Ease Hands Free Leash comes in eight beautiful colors. Matching harnesses and pouches are also available so you and your pup can be the most fashionable duo in the neighborhood!

What pet parents say about Maxbone GO! With Ease Hands Free Leash
“I had a cheaper hands free leash for about a year that was falling apart and decided to upgrade to maxbone, so glad I did! This leash is the perfect length and I love that it’s adjustable if in a crowded place and shorter leash length is necessary. The strap for my waist is comfortable and easily adjusted. Love that you can also turn it into a regular leash if desired. Overall great find.”
“I love the leash it’s cute & so nice to be hands free. The only downside is it’s definitely too short for me to wear across my body so I can only use it around my waist and even then I wish it extended just a bit longer so my dog can have some roaming space but other than that it’s fantastic.”
“Absolutely love this product! I clip it on [to] my shiba’s matching harness and it is so easy walking him while doing other errands. I chose the gray color so it can be easily paired with any outfit heh. Couldn't recommend it more!”

Zee.Dog 3-in-1 Hands-Free Dog Leash
Zee.Dog touts its hands-free leash as a 3-in-1 leash—you can wear it across your chest or around your waist, or use it as a long leash. The adjustable slider makes it easy to switch between configurations, and the lock buckle lets you tether your dog to a table or bench when needed without having to unleash them.
The Zee.Dog Hands-Free Leash comes in about a dozen unique colorways, including a couple of fluorescent or reflective ones for better visibility at night. No matter which hue you choose, expect to get compliments.
I have this leash in Army Green and have had a few people tell me how nice it is! It’s cute and durable, and best of all, I can scoop the poop without having to worry about my dog wandering off while I’m not looking.
Zee.Dog Hands-Free Leash
Why Wag! loves Zee.Dog Hands-Free Leash
- Made of thick rope
- Easy to adjust
- Can be used multiple ways
- Looks hip and cool
- Can be personalized with Zee.Pinz silicone charms
Considerations & concerns
- Most colors are not reflective
- Not chew-proof; best to avoid using with teething puppies
- May not be suitable for dogs who pull really hard
What pet parents say about Zee.Dog Hands-Free Leash
“This is such a great leash. The colors are very cute and I love the option to wear it as a cross body or attach it to the arm of a chair when taking our dog out. This will be a leash we will have for several years. It's a great length too!”
“The connector is thick so if you have a very tiny dog, you might have a problem connecting it to their collar. It is the perfect length for walks. If your dog tends to run in circles around you, the leash does not adjust accordingly. You need to either control the dog or move the leash around [your waist].”
“This is perfect for my 65lbs chowchow. I like that I can adjust the leash to long or short and it's super sturdy! I wear him around my waist. The price is a tad pricey and I wish they would let us pick the color of the clip, other than that no complaints! We love it!”

Tuff Mutt Hands Free Dog Leash
The Tuff Mutt Hands Free Dog Leash is a “grrreat” leash for active pet parents and furbabies. Designed for medium to large dogs who like to pull, it comprises a waist belt that adjusts up to 48 inches and a bungee leash that stretches up to 5 feet when pulled.
Other cool features include a slider ring that keeps the belt from loosening, dual easy-to-grab handles that let you control your pup when needed, and bright reflective stitching that keeps you visible on evening runs.
My personal favorite, though, is the sliding belt clip. This is a feature that most hands-free leashes don’t have, and it’s one of the main reasons why I bought this leash. My dog likes to go from side to side when we’re walking; since the belt clip isn’t fixed to one spot, I don’t have to spin around when she’s on the “wrong” side.
Tuff Mutt Hands Free Dog Leash
Why Wag! loves Tuff Mutt Hands Free Dog Leash
- Made with durable weather-resistant materials
- Comes in over a dozen vibrant colorways
- Belt and bungee leash can be purchased separately (on Tuff Mutt website)
- Reasonably priced
- Backed by a lifetime warranty
Considerations & concerns
- Can’t be worn crossbody
- Some pet parents have complained about the clip breaking
- May be too heavy for small dogs
What pet parents say about Tuff Mutt Hands Free Dog Leash
“My husky is *mostly* good at not pulling, but with the bungee leash we’re doing so much better! He starts to feel the elastic and then lightens up, it’s awesome. Also super nice to be hands free for long hikes. Love the handle placements. This is an excellent product - trail tested and approved!”
“This Tuff Mutt leash is the best leash ever! I have constant cramps in my hands and can’t hold things at times. With this leash I’m not afraid of dropping the leash and having my puppy run! I can now walk my dog again and we are both thrilled!!! I would definitely recommend this leash to others!”
“I used one of these when I was dog walking professionally and now I have one for walking my own dog. It’s great for extra stability if your dog is strong and pulls when excited about something or if you have shoulder/back problems and want to take the strain off of those areas.”

Pet Dreamland Hands Free Double Dog Leash
Best for multiple dogs
Some people will argue that two dogs are better than one, but let’s face it—walking them can be a challenge. Enter the Pet Dreamland Hands Free Double Dog Leash, which was designed for pet parents with more than one furchild.
Its key feature is the tangle-free 360-degree swivel splitter, which means you don’t have to worry about the leashes getting tangled. It also has padded handles, shock-absorbing bungee cords, and reflective stitching on both sides.
The Pet Dreamland Hands Free Double Dog Leash comes in two sizes: one for large dogs up to 150 pounds and one for small to medium dogs up to 35 pounds. Both have the same functionalities, but the latter has smaller rings and lighter carabiners for petite pups.

What pet parents say about Pet Dreamland Hands Free Double Dog Leash
“Reflective detailing is great! Leashes are strong & works well for my 2 big dogs. I do wish the belt adjusted a little smaller - on the tightest setting, it's barely small enough.”
“I was concerned about the durability, considering that my lab is VERY strong. I'll admit, there's some creaking noises from the band stretching sometimes which do mildly concern me, but the leash does seem extremely durable and is still holding up so far after about a month (will update if that changes)... Overall, if you have two dogs and are walking them by yourself, you absolutely need this leash for your sanity! One of the best Amazon purchases I've ever made, not even exaggerating.”
“Works well and doesn’t tangle. Very strong too.”

Red Dingo Multipurpose SuperLead
Best for small dogs
Most hands-free leashes may be too heavy for pint-sized pooches. But not to worry, because the Red Dingo SuperLead comes in four sizes, including extra small which was created for canines weighing 13 pounds or less.
Adjustable from 3.6 to 6 feet, this all-in-one leash can be used as a regular handheld leash or worn around the waist for hands-free walking or running. It has a simple design with a couple of nifty features, including the brand's iconic Bucklebone clip that allows for one-click tethering and a D-ring for storing the unused end of the leash during off-leash romps.
Redbarn Superlead Leash
Why Wag! loves Red Dingo Multipurpose SuperLead
- Can be used two ways
- Made with high-quality materials
- Has an ergonomic attachment clip
- No need to carry unused leash when off-leash
- Comes in multiple widths and colors
Considerations & concerns
- Can’t be worn crossbody
- Not reflective
- Doesn't have handles
What pet parents say about Red Dingo Multipurpose SuperLead
"My wife and I have different leash length preferences. So we were using 2 or 3 different leashes. Now we just use the Red Dingo lead. You can change the length of the lead very quickly. The clip is superior to the typical ones. We have a 24 pound (small) beagle, so I ordered the one with the smallest width. If I buy another, I go up in width. Ours is plenty strong, but feels a little light in the hand."
"The [leash] is perfect to have on a service dog."
