Wild-caught salmon and humanely raised chicken are the top ingredients in each recipe. Other common top five ingredients include peas, brown rice, and meat meals.
Open Farm Goodbowl recipes are lower in protein (35.5% as dry matter) and fat (13.3% as dry matter) compared to its other dry foods ranges.

Recipes include agar-agar, a thickening agent from red algae that can cause gastrointestinal inflammation and may not be suitable for cats with sensitive stomachs.
One of the main downsides of Open Farm Rustic Blends is the high fat percentages in some recipes. Open Farm Rustic Blends recipes contain above average protein (43.4% as dry matter) and high fat (29.1% as dry matter) on average compared to standard wet cat food.
It's worth noting that Open Farm wet food only meets the AAFCO guidelines for maintenance (adults) and is unsuitable for kittens.

Here are a few reasons why Wag! gives Open Farm cat food a flawless 5 out of 5 paws up!
Vet recommended
Dr. Georgia Jeremiah, pet nutrition expert and one of Wag! 's veterinary consultants, purrsonally recommends Open Farm to pet parents:
"Open Farm offers grain-free, high-quality protein diets using human-grade wet ingredients. Their sourcing emphasizes ethical practices and humanely raised meats, whilst their non-GMO, antibiotic and hormone-free recipes with freeze-dried raw and wet options provide a tasty and nutritious alternative to most commercial diets."
100% human-grade ingredients
Open Farm uses 100% human-grade ingredients in its cat foods. Using human-grade ingredients ensures each recipe has high nutritional value and is easy on your fur-baby's digestive system.
Commitment to sustainability and transparency
Open Farm pledges to reduce its carbon footprint by 42% by 2030, making it among the most environmentally conscious pet food brands around. Plus, Open Farm offsets emissions through forest conservation and wind farm projects.
Open Farm is completely transparent about where it sources its ingredients. Check out each recipe list on its website; it'll say where every ingredient comes from. For example, Open Farm sources its humanely-raised chicken from Pennsylvania, New York, and Virginia.
Concerns & considerations
Here are a few things to bear in mind before buying Open Farm cat food for your feline friend.
On the pricey side
Open Farm is more expensive than many budget-friendly alternatives due to its human-grade quality and careful ingredient sourcing.
At the time of writing, an 8-pound bag of Open Farm Homestead Turkey & Chicken Dry Cat Food costs $42.99 — that works out at around $5.37 per pound. By comparison, a 15-pound bag of Purina Cat Chow Naturals Original costs around $26 on Chewy — which works out at $1.44 per pound.
Limited recipes for different life stages and breeds
Open Farm has only one recipe specially formulated for kittens and no recipes for seniors. There are also no wet food recipes suitable for kittens, which isn't ideal if you're trying to get your latest fur-baby used to different food textures and tastes.
What pet parents say about Open Farm cat food
"Both my cats eat every morsel of this when I feed them twice per day. Their fur is super shiny and soft. Plus with the all natural ingredients their stool doesn't smell as bad and they don't have to use the cat box as often either because it's much better for their digestive systems."
"Our cats love it; all three of them (two 1yos and one 18yo). It smells like chicken soup and they go nuts for it. The consistency (pretty soupy) is a surprising benefit, because it drastically slows the youngin's down!! They can't just wolf it down in two bites, they have to work at it. But we've been feeding it for almost two months and have no complaints (and neither do the cats)!"

Open Farm's journey began in 2011 when husband and wife Jacqueline Prehogan and Isaac Langleben adopted a rescue pup named Bella. They decided they wanted to feed Bella not only the best quality diet possible, but one that aligned with their values.
After being unable to find dog food that met their nutrition and sustainability standards, Jacqueline and Isaac decided to start their own pet food brand. So, they founded Open Farm in Toronto, Canada, in 2014.
They were soon joined by Isaac's brother, Derek, to help build a pet food brand made that uses human-grade ingredients and meets the highest sustainability and transparency standards. Today, they've expanded their operation outside of Canada to the U.S., Australia, and parts of Asia.
