One major downside to Victor Classics is they're high in carbs—Hi-Pro Plus consists of 35% carbs. This figure suggests Victor Classic recipes contain large amounts of grains as filler ingredients. In fact, Victor Classic Hi-Pro Plus is higher in carbs than protein (33.1% as dry matter) and fat (22.4% as dry matter). 

Select formulas provide tailored protein options through carefully crafted blends for all life stages. With advanced science-backed ingredients, these formulas are great for dogs with protein allergies.

Like its Classic range, Victor Selects' ingredients aren't anything special, with meat meals and a combination of grain sorghum and millet or peas, sweet potatoes, and chickpeas making up the bulk of these recipes. Despite brown rice being in the name of some grain-inclusive recipes, it's only the most common grain in one recipe (Lamb Meal & Brown Rice). 

Again, the grain-inclusive recipes in this range are high in carbs—Victor Select Chicken Meal & Brown Rice consists of nearly over 50% carbs as dry matter, with less protein (26.5% as dry matter) and fat (13.7% as dry matter) combined.

Victor’s Purpose line is designed for dogs with specific requirements like joint health, weight management, or low-carb diets. It features scientifically advanced, nutritionally complete ingredients formulated to target distinct needs for a healthy life. 

Victor Purpose's six recipes are rich in high-quality protein from various meats and are also available in grain-free options. The ingredient quality in Victor Purpose is similar to the rest of Victor's dry foods, meat meal, chicken fat, and millet or peas topping the list. 

Victor Purpose Performance consists of 28.5% protein as dry matter and 19.7% fat as dry matter. 

This collaboration between Realtree and Victor is a special range of super premium dog food designed for active working and hunting dogs. These products have elevated levels of vital nutrients to fuel your dog's energy and endurance throughout the entire season. 

With scientifically advanced ingredients, including glucosamine and chondroitin for joint support, as well as rich protein from various types of meat, this food ensures sustained energy and overall wellness for your active companion. 

Despite being described as a "super premium" dry dog food range, Victor Realtree recipes consist of largely the same primary ingredients as the rest of its dry dog foods. 

Realtree recipes also contain largely similar protein and fat percentages to the Victor Classic range. MAX-5 PRO contains 32.9% protein as dry matter and 21.9% fat as dry matter. 

Just like their dry foods, Victor wet dog foods are free of preservatives, artificial flavors and colors. These canned foods have a soft texture—ideal for older dogs, dogs with dental issues, or smaller mouths. Victor's wet foods also make tasty toppers if your pup is getting a little tired of their regular food.

Victor canned dog foods are generally good quality. Aside from nutritional additives, the Chicken and Rice Pâté has only seven primary ingredients: chicken, chicken broth, chicken liver, brown rice, dried egg product, barley, and guar gum. 

Victor Chicken and Rice Formula Pâté consists of above-average protein (40.9% as dry matter) and above-average fat (27.2% as dry matter) compared to standard canned wet food. 

If you need training rewards or you just want to spoil your dog for being a good boy or girl, Victor also offers two dog treat recipes. These treats are made with Victor's VPRO Blend and feature no artificial flavors or colors. Hi-pro treats are tender and feature beef as the first ingredient. 

Victor uses quality ingredients, including real meat meal, as the primary source of protein, which is important for a dog's overall health. They also leave out fillers like corn, wheat, and soy, making it a great choice for dogs with food allergies or sensitivities.

High levels of carbs suggest these formulas are high in filler ingredients instead of nutritionally valuable protein and fat.

There have been two Victor dog food recalls as of March 2025.

In September 2023, Mid America Pet Food issued a voluntary recall for 1 lot of Victor Super Premium Dog Food, Hi-Pro Plus manufactured at its Texas facility. The recall was issued due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Mid America Pet Food then expanded the recall in October 2023 to include 3 lots of Select Beef Meal & Brown Rice Formula. The recall later widened further to include multiple Victor recipes and products from other brands — check this link from the FDA for a full list of recalled products.
