Evia is a newer residential community located just south of the Central Galveston area. This developed neighborhood has community amenities like a coffee shop, community center, playground, and pool for locals to walk to and the community has been designed with on-foot travel in mind. Residents with dogs can enjoy taking in the beautiful landscaping and homes and accessing the services provided in the community.

The climate in Galveston is warm and wet in winter and hot and wet in the summer! No need to layer up to stay warm on outdoor excursions in Evia as it is mild even in winter months. However, waterproof material with breathable fabric for warm weather that is coupled with rain is recommended. In the summer, temperatures can soar on hot days so you will want to avoid taking your dog out in the heat. Plan walks for earlier or later in the day when it is cooler.

Evia is a uniquely developed residential community with homes designed to reflect Old South Port City architecture with large covered front porches. Sidewalks, which are a rarity in many Galveston residential communities, run along residential streets in Evia and invite pedestrians and their pooches to stroll the neighborhood and visit with neighbors. Homes are designed to minimize the appearance of garages that would mar the historic look of the neighborhood.

There are three large lakes in the community and natural areas and lakes bordering the it. Central community amenities exist like a playground and pool. Because this community is located behind the Galveston Sea Wall and homes do not need to be constructed on pilings, houses have living space at ground level. Evia is a newer area and large shade trees have not developed while the area is flat and exposed to elements like sun and rain. The good news is: no steep hills to traverse!

The large lakes, green spaces, and paved pedestrian paths in Evia create greenways right in the community. Nearby beaches of Galveston are dog-friendly and your pet is welcome to join you on the beach and in the ocean as long as you keep your pet on a leash.  Be careful in natural areas like approaches to the coast, especially where dunes have formed, as venomous snakes reside in the region. Teach your dog to avoid snakes as a good safety precaution. Whether you are hiking along beaches or in other natural areas like the wilderness reserves to the west, this will help keep your dog safe.

Galveston has an off-leash dog park located to the east at Lindale Park if you want to let your dog romp with other canines in a safe, enclosed environment. There are separate areas in Lindale Dog Park for large and small dogs and benches and picnic tables that provide rest areas for owners.
