The weather in Kahala Beach Estates is lovely and warm all year round. Even in winter, temperatures are well above freezing and the cold will not prevent dog owners from walking their pups out for walks. It does rain frequently in Galveston due to its coastal location and rain occurs year round. Having good rain gear will keep your walks with your furry friend more pleasant. Summer months see soaring temperatures with averages in the high eighties. Very hot weather is uncomfortable for walking and hot pavement or sand can burn your dog's paws. Stick to grassy surfaces when the mercury rises or get your dog some paw protection to walk along the beach.

The Kahala Beach Estates neighborhood consists of beachfront homes located just off of the Terminal San Luis Pass Road which runs east-west on Galveston Island. The community is located on the Gulf of Mexico and the ocean is a predominant feature of the landscape. The terrain is flat and homes in Kahala Beach Estates are elevated on stilts to protect residents from occasional storm surges of the gulf. Residences are well spaced with large communal grassy areas and no sidewalks. Walk your dog on the grassy areas, if possible, and watch for traffic when walking along residential roads.

A hotel, apartment buildings, and a recreational area with facilities like a playground, shuffleboard courts, and mini golf are located just north of the community. These facilities bring traffic along the main road so be careful when walking nearby and keep your dog leashed so your pup does not inadvertently run into traffic on the main road.

Dogs are allowed on Galveston beaches, provided they remain on a leash. Your greenway experiences may be a little more sandy than most. Keeping your dog close and supervised when exploring the beach and playing in the surf is a good idea as there can be critters along the beach which pose a danger to your dog. Sea creatures that wash up on shore such as jellyfish can pose a hazard to dogs and there are sometimes snakes in the dunes near beaches that you will not want your dog to tangle with. Teaching your dog to avoid these creatures and keeping your dog supervised at all times on the beach is advised.

Be sure to enjoy this unique opportunity to enjoy the sand and surf right in your neighborhood with your furry friend. An outdoor shower may be a good idea to clean off your pup when you get home from your seaside adventures.
