Penwood State Park
If you and your dog want to spend the day out in the woods, head to Penwood State Park. Dogs are allowed on-leash on all of Penwood State Park’s picturesque trails. One of the most popular trails in the park is the 10.3-mile Penwood State Park Trail. This moderate trail takes you in a loop around the park. Along the way, it passes a waterfall and scenic outlooks where you’ll get stunning views of the nearby hills and valleys. If you’re hungry after your walk, you can have lunch or a snack at the picnic area located next to Penwood Pond. Pups are welcome to join you at the picnic area as long as they’re on-leash.

Bloomfield Hill
Bloomfield Hill is home to Filley Park, a great place to take your dog for an on-leash walk. This park has an unpaved trail where you can take your dog for leisurely strolls. It also has a peaceful pond and beautiful gardens and flowers. Bring water and doggy bags, and have a fun day out at this park! If you’re hungry after the park, check out Little Mark’s Big BBQ. This casual restaurant welcomes dogs at their outdoor picnic tables, and they serve classic Southern fare, including barbeque ribs, fried chicken and fried catfish, pulled pork platters, and much more.

Griswoldville / South Wethersfield
Griswoldville is a quiet residential area that mostly has single-family homes. For its furry residents, Griswoldville offers a furrific off-leash area called Wethersfield Dog Park. This dog park is 14 miles from Bloomfield, and it has separate areas for large dogs and small or timid dogs. Both areas offer lots of space for dogs to run and play with their friends, and they have doggy bags and water fountains. If you want to get your pup a treat after the park, head over to nearby Starbucks and order your dog a puppuccino. You and your pup can enjoy your drinks at one of Starbucks’ two dog-friendly outdoor tables.

Located eight miles from Bloomfield, Simsbury Center is a mixed commercial and residential area that’s home to lots of local businesses, single-family homes, and parks. This neighborhood also has an off-leash area that pups are sure to love: Paw Meadow Dog Park. This dog park has separate areas for big dogs and small dogs that weigh under 25 pounds. If your dog gets thirsty while they’re playing, water is available. If you want to get a snack with your dog after the park, head to Popover Café & Bakery. This café welcomes dogs at their outdoor tables, and they serve a wide variety of scramble egg-stuffed popovers, waffles, breakfast sandwiches, and breakfast bowls.

Burr Pond State Park
If you’re looking for another pawsitively amazing place to take your dog for an on-leash hike, head to Burr Pond State Park. Dogs are welcome everywhere in this park except the beach. One of the most popular trails in this park is the Burr Pond Trail. This 2.5-mile trail loops around Burr Pond, providing stunning views. If your pup gets hot while they’re walking, there are lots of spots along the trail where you can go for a swim together. After your walk, go for a picnic with your pup at the park’s picnic area. Or, simply sit and enjoy the views of the pond. Bring doggy bags and water, and have a great day out at the park!
