Downtown
The downtown neighborhood in the small town of La Porte gives a person and dog some quaint shop windows to view while the paws pad the sidewalks. Any dog would appreciate a change of scenery at any of the the several neighborhood parks. Scott Park on Jefferson Avenue is a 5-acre park which offers benches, a water fountain, and a shelter. Ben Rees Park on Scott Street is a 1.5 acre park with benches, a shelter, and a walking track. Scott Park on Jefferson is 5 acres of green space with benches, shelter, and a water fountain. Dogs must stay on their leashes at all parks in this neighborhood. These parks, although a little on the smaller side, make the downtown neighborhood a doggone good place to visit.

Southside
The Southside neighborhood brings dogs and their people so much closer to the great outdoors. Kesling Park, located at 2950 A Street, has 90 acres of the woods, fields, and recreational sites. A nature trail and a fitness trail are offered for those looking to explore or get a little exercise. There's also a walking track, benches, and numerous water fountains along the way. Dogs must remain on their leashes at Kesling Park. For some off-leash exercise, dogs can head a bit further south to Luhr County Park at 3178 S. 150th. Luhr has a 1-acre dog park where dogs can run leash-free and get a sniff of a friend or two. La Porte County requires visitors to obtain a permit before using the park. Permits are available for residents and nonresidents for daily or annual use.

Northwest
The sprawling Northwest neighborhood is dotted with places to stay and parks to play in. Creek Ridge County Park at 7943 W. 400 has a large dog park for dogs to run leash-free and socialize. The dog park has a separate area for small dogs. Hoops and tunnels in these grassy parks make them even more fun for dogs. People take advantage of the many benches in this park. Two hotels in this neighborhood have dog-friendly accommodations. Best Western located at 444 Pine Lake Avenue allows two dogs of any size to stay for an additional fee of $20 per dog per night. Travelodge at 438 Pine Lake Avenue allows two dogs up to 100 pounds to stay for $20 per dog per night.

Scipio Township
Scipio Township in southeast La Porte takes care of its dogs. Dogs love coming to the South Animal Shelter Dog Park on West State Road. This dog park is an acre of ground, giving dogs in the neighborhood and beyond a place to run leash-free and socialize. This dog park is a completely fenced park, and includes numerous pieces of agility equipment. Waste bags are provided for your convenience, and water is available on-site. Dogs must have either a daily or annual off-leash permit before visiting. Permits are obtained from La Porte County Parks. A portion of the fees collected go to the support of the animal shelter, which is attached to the dog park.

Westville
Westville is a town located ten miles southwest of La Porte. This small town is home to Bluhm County Park. Bluhm is a 96-acre park located at 3855 S 1100 W. Bluhm preserves a variety of outdoor beauty, including forests, wetlands, and prairie. This park has numerous hiking trails and places to picnic, so why not bring some lunch along and make a day of it? The park also has a 3-acre dog park, which is completely fenced so dogs can socialize leash free. The dog park includes several pieces of agility equipment for training or just fun. There is a separate enclosure for small dogs. Waste bags are provided for convenient cleanup. A permit must be obtained from La Porte County Parks before using the dog park.
