Does your hound love to swim? Then you have to visit Raising Cane's Dog Park at Kiroli Park in West Monroe. It’s a water dog’s heaven, complete with fountains, waterfalls and even a gated pond for your pup to paddle around in. Along with the water works, there are also beautiful hiking trails, picnic areas and gardens throughout the 150-acre park. The dog park offers an area for larger dogs and an area for smaller dogs less than 25 lbs. and for dogs with special needs. Both sections have a pavilion and ponds. Most of the park is very accessible, with paved trails spanning throughout, along with numerous benches and chairs for your comfort. Admission is $1 per person to the main park. You must register your furry loved one at the Kiroli Park office. Registration is $10. Bring your pooch any time between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Cheniere Lake

Take your pup for a walk on the wild side! Cheniere Lake Park offers something for you and your canine, whether you want to swim, take a hike or just relax in a beautiful natural environment. The recreational spot is for its variety of Louisiana wildlife. Your canine can become acquainted with its less domestic friends, including fish, birds, turtles, beavers and otters. Admission to the park is free. Campsites are available to rent, but there’s no additional fee to bring your dog. Just be sure to keep him on a leash. This park is a great option for those who want to skip the city park and connect with nature.

Lakeshore

Waterfront Grill is the place to go for a casual lunch or an upscale dinner – either way, your four-legged friend is welcome at one of its several dog-friendly tables. The popular restaurant features a huge menu; you can find po’boys, catfish, steaks, pasta dishes, sandwiches and salads. But perhaps the best part is that it sits right on the bank of the Bayou DeSiard, the river that winds through the city. Enjoy the beautiful view as you eat your delicious meal with your pup at your feet. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Arkansas Road

Magic Grill in West Monroe is quaint family-owned, and with hound-friendly tables, is a favorite of both human and canine locals. Let your furry loved one rest at your feet while you enjoy a meal from the old-fashion diner menu. Grab a classic burger, hot dog or pork chop, and top it off with one of their many milkshakes or floats. Their hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. There is also a Magic Grill in downtown Monroe, but this location is just 3 miles from the Raising Cane's Dog Park at Kiroli Park. It’s the perfect spot to go after a tasty lunch – especially if your pup loves water. The dog park features a gated pond, fountains and waterfalls, along with walking trails and benches!

Lamkin

The beautiful Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Monroe will provide the perfect adventure for you and your pup. The sprawling 4,200 acres includes wetlands, Cypress swamps, bottomland hardwood forests, a lake and a prairie. It’s a well-known fishing area, and many people like to canoe and hike, although there is no camping. Accessible boardwalks will take you and your pooch into the heart of the refuge. Dogs are allowed on the grounds but not in the buildings. You must also keep your furry friend on a leash at all times, and be sure to clean up after him.
