Teays
The Valley Dog Park in Hurricane’s Valley Park is a must-do while in the area. Your pup will adore the chance to play off-leash for a while, meeting new friends and really stretching his legs. The fenced area includes agility equipment for added fun, and grassed with shady trees to keep you all cool in warm weather. Bring a bowl here, as water is provided, but outside the dog area. Outside the dog park, pop your pet back on the lead and enjoy the walking trails, picnic areas and views of the ponds. There is a large playground here too, as well as ball fields and tennis courts to help keep the kids entertained.36

South Hurricane
The Midland Trail City Park is tucked in at a convergence in Hurricane Creek in the southern section of Hurricane. It is a well-kept, clean park worthy of a visit with your pup for an on-lead walk or picnic stop. Much of the park is flat wooded area, but covers over 10 acres, so there’s plenty to explore! Restrooms are on site at Midland Trail City Park for your convenience, and baseball fields add extra open play space. During the summer, your kids will love playing in the splash park. Bring waste disposal bags and pick up after your pet when out and about to keep the place tidy for future visitors.24

Milton
April Dawn Park in Milton is just seven miles east of Hurricane and a beautiful park to visit. There is ample open space here for a game of catch with your pet, or take a walk around the grounds together. Picnic tables and benches provide a lovely place to sit and enjoy a rest, and a small playground and skate park will keep the kids happy too. While you are over in Milton, take a walk down the main street for a spot of window shopping, located just a few blocks from April Dawn Park. Mud Creek is in the southern section for a little more exploring too.12

Blake Rd/ Majestic Dr
The Ridenour Memorial Park in Nitro is just over 13 miles from Hurricane, and features a host of pet-friendly things to do. Within the park’s grounds is a dedicated dog park, where your pooch can play off-leash while you casually supervise from the benches or chat with fellow doggie parents. Outside the dog park, hook your pet up to the lead and walk the trail surrounding the fishing lake or head into the nature trails in the adjacent wooded area. There are also picnic facilities here, flushing toilets, potable water and a shelters. Nitro City Park is close by too, sitting right alongside the Kanawha River. Your pup will love another walk here or to chill out by your side while you catch dinner.
