Dalmadoodle

It helps to look at the parent breeds from where the Dalmadoodle originated to understand the background of this popular hybrid dog. While the Dalmatian breeds origin is unknown, there have been spotted dogs found in Egyptian Bas-reliefs and Hellenic friezes so it is an ancient breed. In 1993 efforts to have the breed recognised as having Croatian roots was finally accepted. In the middle ages, the Dalmatian was used as a hound. They then became popular as a carriage dog in the 1800s, trotting along beside and among the horses and carriages and guarding them while the master was occupied elsewhere. It has also been a mascot for firemen, war sentinel, draft dog, circus performer, vermin hunter, bird dog, trail and finally as a guard dog.  The Poodle started out their lives as hunting dogs. It is from German origin but the French refined it and made it their own. Dating back to 1800s or earlier, they were especially good as water retrieving. Quick and intelligent with a desire to please, they later became popular as performing dogs with travelling troupes and circuses. Poodles come in three sizes and are one of the most popular breeds in the world. They appear as glamorous in the show ring, but have worked diligently for the blind and as police dogs. They compete in all dog sports including herding sheep, obedience, and agility. They were recognised by the American Kennel Club in 1886.
