Squishy-faced snoring machines,
Pugs have captured the hearts of pet parents worldwide. Pugs are cuddle bugs and were bred especially to be lapdogs.
In fact, Pugs are one of the oldest dog breeds, originating from China around 400 BCE. Pugs were kept as pets by Chinese emperors and Tibetan monks as they were seen to be lucky. Pugs became popular in the West in the 19th century thanks to Queen Victoria, who had several of these pint-sized pooches.
Pugs have maintained their popularity over the centuries thanks to their unusual appearance and laidback personalities. To celebrate National Pug Day on October 15th, we've come up with 5 great ways you can spoil your Pug. So grab your wrinkly woofer and let's dive in!
Cook your Pug a homemade doggy dinner
Any Pug parent will know how much these mini mutts love their food. They'll eat pretty much anything and are determined beggars. So, why not treat your Pug to a homemade meal this National Pug Day?
Some roast chicken, gravy, carrots, peas, and rice is a simple meal that will show your Pug they're the best. Or, you could show your buddy your baking skills and make them some delicious
dog treats. Just triple-check that all the ingredients used in your meal are safe for dogs to eat.
Snuggle up for a pug-themed movie marathon
There are few
activities Pugs love more than cuddling up on the couch with their favorite human. Planning a night-in with your Pug in front of the TV is certain to get their tail wagging.
Pugs are popular movie mutts and appear in several famous films, like Men in Black, The Campaign, and The Secret Life of Pets. Dogs can understand what's happening on screen, so watching these films might pique your Pug's interest. So, rent a few Pug movies, break out the popcorn, and snuggle up with your pup.
Treat your Pug to a spa day
Despite being small doggos, Pugs require quite a lot of maintenance to stay healthy and happy. They shed a lot and need daily brushing and their nails trimmed every few weeks. Pugs love to the petted and pampered, so a spa day is the "pawfect" way to spoil your Pug.
Give your Pug a good brush, a relaxing bath, and a massage to show them they're the best barking buddy. With all their wrinkles and loose skin, Pugs love a massage, and you'll find lots of videos online showing your best Pug massage techniques.
If there's one thing Pugs love more than food, it's interacting with other people and pups. One of the best ways you can spoil your Pug on National Pug Day is to arrange a Pug party! Invite your friends that have Pugs and Pugs from your favorite dog park.
Lay out some food and toys for the Pugs to play with. As a fun activity, arrange a wrinkliest Pug contest and have the pet parents vote for a winner. Depending on the weather, you could even arrange a BBQ. Your Pug will feel on top of the world interacting with so many new people and puppers.
Pugs hate being alone for long periods and can suffer from
separation anxiety and
depression if left at home frequently. Taking your Pug to work is an unusual way to spoil your pooch, but it makes sense.
By taking your Pug to work, they'll get to experience a new environment and be bored or upset being stuck at home. Plus, they'll get lots of attention from all of your co-workers. Just ensure you check your workplace allows pets. You'll also want to ensure your Pug is properly
trained so they don't misbehave while you're working.
