Herculaneum is a small town just north of Festus and not far from the conveniences of St. Louis County. People with a furry family member will have a choice of three veterinarians in town. Large animal hospitals equipped for any emergency can be found in nearby Festus and less than a half-hour's drive into south St. Louis County.
Herculaneum has five furrific parks within its city limits where you and Fido can get some outdoor exercise. The Governor Daniel Dunklin's Grave State Historic Site boasts scenic views of the Mississippi River. The other municipal parks have picnic sites available, and the Bates Memorial Park includes a looped trail which invites a person and a leashed dog to get some easy outdoor exercise amid a forested area.
The Joachim Loop Trail has a 1.1-mile leg made of crushed rock. The terrain is mostly level, and the trail winds its way through wetlands and some mature tree cover. Bates Memorial Park includes areas to picnic and a popular fishing spot. Dunklin-Fletcher Memorial Park includes green spaces, picnic sites, and a scenic overlook of the Mississippi River. Shot Tower Park is a small park with green spaces for you and a leashed dog to explore.
You and Fido will have a hard time getting bored in Herculaneum!
