Balboa Pier Beach

If you want to spend time with your pup at a beautiful beach on the Pacific Ocean, check out Balboa Pier Beach. Dogs are welcome to join you on this puptastic beach in the morning and evening, allowing you to watch the sunrise or sunset with your furry best friend!

Parking is available in a municipal lot right to next to Balboa Pier Beach. If this lot is full, there’s also metered street parking near the beach. Once you get onto the beach, you and your dog can go for long walks on the shoreline, and dogs can splash around in the ocean. Just be sure to keep your pup on their leash while they’re walking or playing in the water.

You and your dog can also go for strolls on the historic Balboa Pier. This pier was built in 1903, and it’s still frequently used by fishermen today. The pier is particularly popular in spring and summer, when fishermen from all over come to catch Grunion fish. You and your pup will both have a great time strolling on this scenic pier and enjoying views of the ocean.

After you’re finished walking on the beach, you and your pup can relax on the golden sand together. There isn’t much shade on Balboa Pier Beach, so be sure to bring an umbrella to protect you and your dog from the hot California sun. It’s also a good idea to bring some water and doggy bags with you. If you get hungry, Balboa Pier Beach has charcoal barbeques you can use to grill burgers or hot dogs for you and your pup!
