Buchanan Dog Beach

Buchanan Dog Beach is also known as the Albany waterfront. Garnered with a great deal of history as an old Native American settlement site, the former home of a dynamite factory, and a late dump spot, this waterfront has a lot of character. The beach itself isn't huge and does contain a lot of old concrete blocks that are overgrown with foliage; therefore, the shores are lacking a great deal of sandy goodness. The water, on the other hand, is perfect for you and your pup to take a swim!

Lined by both the Albany Bulb Peninsula and the Bay Trail, this dog beach offers not only fun water to wade through, but beautiful trails to take your furry friend for a solid, off-leash walk. The trails easily make up for the lack of soft-sanded beach. The beach is normally not very crowded, making this a great area to bring your pup to swim at all times of the day. Take in the beautiful scenery of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Bay on a clear day. 

You are welcome in the bay with your doggo! Although this may not be the best place to sit back and relax, it is a great getaway from the city where your dog can run free. Please be mindful of others in the area who may not appreciate dogs as much. Be sure that your pooch listens well to voice commands if you plan on letting them off the leash and make sure to keep them close by in case there is another dog that yours might not get along with. 

Be sure that you bring water along for your dog to drink and something to provide shade in case it gets toasty. Also, out of respect for the beach and other beachgoers, please bring along plastic bags to properly dispose of your doggy's waste.
