Carmel Beach

Carmel Beach in the sunny state of California is the go-to place where dogs get to play all day in a paradise setting.

Sparkling, white sand and waves kissing the shore set the scene for one of the best dog beaches on earth. The steep sand dunes at the back of the beach add a safety barrier so you can feel pretty relaxed letting your fur-baby run free. This beach has surfing areas and unpredictable currents, so make sure your dog can navigate the waves. Little pups might do well with a life jacket, or to stay on-leash in the ocean. Pools in the sand make great safe zones for pooches and kids to have water fun.

At the south end of the beach, stylish rock and wood restrooms blend with the environment while a poop bag dispenser is situated by the steps leading down to the shore. Showers are available at the Carmel Beach City Park, behind the beach.

There are cypress and pine trees scattered around for partial shade but with the temperatures reaching 70 degrees in the summer, it’s wise to bring an umbrella or shade tent to keep your pooch cool. You might want to pack fresh water as catching the ball or playing chasing games with other pups is thirsty work

It seems dogs are super popular in Carmel-by-the Sea, a snazzy coastal town with a Mediterranean-style climate that attracts visitors to its irresistible village atmosphere. Fairytales could well have been inspired by this spellbinding city with enchanting Tudor-themed cottages and a blissful beach where dogs can go off-leash.

Sensible rules are in place to ensure people and pooches enjoy the beach with few hassles. It’s expected that dogs react positively to their owner’s vocal cues and not interfere with other woofers and folks on the beach. Vaccinations must be up to date and aggressive dogs should be leashed or preferably left at home. The scenic walk and nearby trails are welcoming to dogs on-leash.

There is free parking with time limits on Ocean Avenue and Scenic road offering easy access to a clean, dog-friendly beach.
