Description
With their own strip of beach specially reserved for doggos, pups in Coronado get to enjoy the sun and surf on the scenic Coronado Beach! The Coronado Dog Beach is a hot-spot for pups and pawrents alike. This puptastic stretch of sand is an off-leash paradise for dogs, and located on the westernmost portion of North Beach, bordering the North Island Naval Air Station.

The Coronado Dog Beach is designed specifically for off-leash pooches. That means they can romp, run, play, swim, and do whatever they like at their leisure, so long as they're well-behaved and have current vaccination and license tags. Parking for the dog beach is along Ocean Boulevard, near the entrance to the naval base and Sunset Park, both of which do not allow dogs. Note that the area can get crowded on the weekends during the summer, so plan accordingly. Be sure to keep your dog leashed on the long walk from the car to the beach, and be aware that the sand here can get pretty hot around mid-day, so keep an eye on those delicate pup paws. Follow signs to the dog beach area, and then let your pup run free!

On the beach, your dog can play in the sand and romp in the waves off leash. Be sure to note the boundary signs, as dogs are not allowed on other areas of Coronado Beach. A tall fence marks the boundary of the naval station, where pups and people alike are prohibited. Swimming is allowed, but from Memorial Day to Labor Day, only surfing is allowed in the water at the dog beach from 11 AM to 6 PM.

While there are clean-up bags available, its always good to bring your own as the fine for leaving pet debris is enforced. Also be sure to bring water to share with your thirsty doggo. Since there isn't much shade on the beach, bringing a shade device is a good idea too!

There is a lifeguard station on the dog beach, but be aware that it isn't always manned. A shower station is also on site so you can rinse the sand off your pooch before hopping back in the car. While restrooms for the humans aren't available on the dog beach, you can find them next door on the dog-restricted area of North Beach right off Ocean Boulevard, and near the parking for the dog beach.

You and your pup will love the Coronado Dog Beach for sunbathing, swimming, walking, and having bonfires, so prepare for a day full of fun, happiness, and doggos!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
