Downs Park is located right on the Chesapeake Bay, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, providing its visitors with elegant views as it's an estuary to the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to containing over five miles of both paved and unpaved trails, Downs Park encompasses a total of 236 acres of land for you and pooch to explore, including Downs Dog Beach. The beach is nestled inside of the park, providing your pup with both an area for recreation and access to swimming.
While inside the boundaries of the Downs Dog Beach, your pooch is free to roam off leash as long as they are in range of hearing you and are under control at all times.
You and your pooch are also asked to follow a few rules listed below, while inside the dog beach area. Cleaning up after your pup is mandatory at all times. Keep in mind that aggressive dogs are prohibited from entering the dog beach at all times, and if they are found on the beach, it can result in a fine.
Puppies under the age of four months and dogs in heat are not permitted on the dog beach. Food items and smoking are also forbidden on the beach. Your pooch must have up to date vaccinations and display appropriate identification tags. Only two dogs per adult are allowed on the beach at all times, and dogs are only allowed in the water immediately in front of the dog beach. Humans are not allowed swimming at the dog beach.
Noncompliance with the rules above can result in your dog being suspended for all parks within Anne Arundel Country. When outside of the dog beach, you are asked to keep your pooch on their leash at all times, and of course, under your control. Within Downs Park, you can find restrooms, as well as an exercise pavilion and basketball courts.
Parking permits can be purchased for $30.00 or $40.00 (depending on if you are from the county), granting the permit holder free parking for the year. Without a permit, regular daily parking is $6.00 or $5.00 for seniors.
