Downs Park Dog Beach

Does your pup need a beach break? Head to Downs Park to find their puptacular Dog Beach! This waterfront park has everything an outdoor adventurer and dog fanatic could ever want in one place, with trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, and the beach! 

You'll find the designated Dog Beach in the northeastern corner of the park, right on the Chesapeake Bay, and wedged between two stone embankments. In this spot of sand and surf, your pup can run unleashed, and splash in the water to their heart's content. Humans are not allowed in the water though, so be sure your pup responds well to voice commands when its time to get them out! Note that pups are not allowed in the woods behind the beach, but can romp in the sand and surf as much as they like in this dog designated spot. 

There aren't many amenities here, so be sure to pack your beach bag with all the essentials, including water to share. Doggie stations are available at the dog beach, so be sure to clean up after your pup. This pup paradise is pawfect for a day in the sun with your furry friend. Kids six or younger are not allowed on the dog beach, so be sure to leave the little ones at home. Leave the food at home too, as none is allowed on the dog beach. Before venturing here, make sure your dog is up to date on vaccinations, and has an ID tag on their collar.

Should you and your doggo adventure outside of the designated dog beach area, be sure to put that leash back on! Check out the 5 miles of hiking trails, some of the many park amenities like restrooms and pavilions, or bring your pup along to one of the great concert events held at the park, just be sure to stay within the designated dog area. 

To get into the park, there is a parking fee of $6.00, or $5.00 for seniors. Parking permits are available if you plan to come more than once, and range from $30.00 to $40.00.
