Great Beach
Best of all, Great Beach warmly welcomes you to bring your dog along to enjoy your day of beach fun. Whether doggy paddling in the ocean, sunning on the sand, or digging a hole deep enough to reach China, it's all fair game for your favorite furry friend at this stunning ocean playground. Just be sure to keep your best canine pal on a leash no greater than six feet in length.
Many pawsome adventures await you at Great Beach! If surfing is your thing, you've come to the right place. The conditions are absolutely pawrfect here. Though swimming is also a favorite activity at Great Beach, be sure to check the wave report before heading out into the clear waters as the current can be dangerous and has previously claimed lives.
There are several beach access points available, and you can even drive right on to the beach itself. The North Beach access area does not permit dogs as it is a protected sanctuary for the rare and endangered plover. The South Beach access point is home to elephant seals during their mating season, and during this time of year, you and your favorite pooch will need to stay at a distance. But you can still catch a glimpse of the amazing wildlife including both the elephant seals and gray whales via binoculars! You won't want to forget your zoom lens for your camera as there will be lots of furific shots to record as a memento of your pawsitively awesome vacation!
Among the other pawrific things to do at Great Beach are leisurely walks, viewing of wildlife, and picnics along the coast. Be sure to pack a lunch and to include some Scooby Snacks for Fido too. While you're at it, throw some clean up bags and bottled water in your beach bag for good measure.
