Gulfside City Beach Park, also known as Algiers Beach, can be found in the middle of the lovely Sanibel Island, a barrier island known for it's abundance of shells. You can reach the island via a causeway bridge which carries a $6 toll fee if you are heading from the mainland. This dog-friendly beach is a pawrific spot to romp in the sand and splash in the waves with your pup.
Parking is on site for $5 an hour or a C permit, available for residents and visitors online, although entry is free to walk-ins and bikers. This beach is easy to access down one of the board-walked trails from the parking area through low shrubs and mangroves. Covered with soft white sand and backed by small dunes filled with low vegetation, this quiet beach features shallow water along the shoreline, which is woofderful for dogs to safely play. Picnic areas and BBQ grills offer a place to catch a snack or meal, while a shade pavilion can offer a refuge from the sun. Or just take a leisurely stroll along the sand for shells.
Your dog is welcome anywhere on the beach and in the water, but does need to remain leashed at all times on a lead no longer than eight feet. Digging at this beach is prohibited to protect sea turtle eggs that can be found nesting here. If you see any turtles, be sure you and your dog give them plenty of room.
Restrooms for the humans are on site, but you'll need to bring clean-up bags for your pup. Always pick up after your dog to help keep this beach pristine. Drinking fountains are also on site, so bring a water bottle or bowl for your pup's convenience. Best of all, this beach features outdoor showers to help get that sand off before heading home.
For a furtastic day in the sun and sand with your best canine, head to gorgeous Sanibel Island's Gulfside City Beach Park!
