For a memorable day at the beach with your pup, head to the furbulous Leo Carrillo State Park! Featuring 1.5 miles of magnificent shoreline, here you can see tide pools, reefs, and coastal caves, making this park an ideal destination for beach lovers and outdoor explorers alike.
Your dog is welcome to hang out with you throughout this state park in the day use areas, the campground, and the beach! You can take your pooch romping and swimming on North Beach, just be sure to stay north of Lifeguard Tower 3. This is the specific dog-friendly area, and anything south of Lifeguard Tower 3, or South Beach, is off-limits to your dog. Pups must remain on a leash no longer than six feet at all times, including when in the water. Be sure to bring all your beach essentials for a pawtastic day in the sun, including water to share with your thirsty pup, snacks, and clean-up bags. Restrooms for the humans, and showers, are available.
The beach provides a wealth of other recreational opportunities, such as surfing or windsurfing. Leo Carrillo State Park is a favorite of anglers, providing those with the proper license a chance to experience shore-based and surf fishing. Kite flyers flock to the area, taking advantage of the Pacific coast breezes. You may even spot Gray whales traveling through the area. Parking is conveniently located right at the beach! Parking fees for the park range from $3.00 to $12.00 per car, depending on how long you are staying.
If you want to take a stroll through the many giant sycamores, head to the campgrounds. The trails, unfurtunately, are off limits to dogs. For those who wish to extend their stay at Leo Carrillo State Park, campsites are available for an additional fee. During the summer, educational programs are offered at the park. Most of them are suitable for children, ensuring the entire family can enjoy the experience.
Whether for a day or a weekend, you and your pup are sure to love the Leo Carillo State Park!
