San Diego is a super-cool city for many reasons, including an eclectic array of diverse lifestyles and beaches where dogs get to have fun! Some refer to La Jolla beaches as the jewel of San Diego and it's easy to see why with photogenic coves, mystical rock formations, cliffs, and sandy shores dotted with shells.
Dogs can go to La Jolla Shore Beach from November 1st through to March 31st before 9 am in the morning and after 4 pm for an early evening walk. From April 1st to October 31st, your pupper can roll around in the sand after 6 pm.
At all times, your dog must be on-leash and exuding good doggy manners so everyone on the beach has a great time. Backing onto the beach is Kellogg Park, a sleek, grassy space with palm trees guarding the perimeter. There’s a designer kid’s playground, restrooms, and showers, plus a boardwalk that runs the length of the beach where joggers, walkers, and cyclists embrace the beach-front atmosphere
La Jolla Shores Village is an up-market affair with chic boutique stores and Spanish-style architecture posing on the hillsides above the beach. Locals bring their precious pups to the beach for leisurely walks and to socialize with dog-loving friends.
Lifeguards are present most of the year from 9 am till dusk and free parking is by the park - but can fill up quickly on a warm summer’s day. Along the northern end of the beach, kids are always keen to explore the Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. The clear waters of La Jolla Beach inspire scuba diving and snorkeling while kayakers and paddle-boarders glide across the relatively calm sea.
There is a place for both people and pooches at this blissful beach, so your fabulous fur-babies can get some beach action before the shores become too crowded. Dogs are nature lovers, so when the clock ticks 6 am, you can bet your woofer is standing before you with their leash - waiting to go to the beach!
