The Santa Barbara region of California is known for its beaches, and Summerland Beach is one of the best for any dog lover. Located in the small town of Summerland, just a six-mile drive east along the coast from Santa Barbara, this pretty stretch of coastline is well worth a look for anyone planning a dog-friendly beach outing. This beach offers not only incredible views, but also an off leash experience for your pup!
The beach is located only a block off Highway 101, right below the cliff where Lookout Park sits. The park is at the end of Evans Avenue which turns into Loookout Park Road. You and your pooch can access the beach via a paved path from the park, or you can park along Finney Street further east where there is a path that leads down to a cleaner stretch of sand.
Once you hit the beach, you can take off the leash and let your pup run wild! Take a relaxing stroll, dip your toes on the water, or maybe just stretch out on the sand to catch a bit of sun. It's a popular location for dogs and their owners, so make sure your dog is well socialized and ready to make some new doggy friends. You might also get the chance to spot some furbulous sealife, such as porpoises and seals.
When your beach adventure comes to an end, you can always spend a little time exploring Lookout Park. The park requires pups to be on leash, so be sure to clip that lead back on. At the park, you'll find restrooms for you, and a coin-operated doggy self-wash station to wash off the sand and sea from your beach pup before you hit the car. There are also picnic pavilions, BBQ grills, a playground, concession machines, a volleyball court and hiking trails to enjoy. Along the trails, you'll find clean-up bag stations and trash cans.Â
Make sure you always clean up after your dog when you visit Summerland Beach and Lookout Park, so always have clean-up bags on hand. Be sure to bring any other beach essentials too, such as water to share with your thirsty pup.
