Bay Furnace Campground

If you are searching for a serene, nature-based oasis with waterfalls and lakeside views for a weekend getaway with your canine companion or a family trip outdoors, look no further! The Bay Furnace Campground is located in the charming county of Alger, under three miles from Munising, Michigan, and accommodates tent and RV camping. 

The campground sits by Lake Superior and thus offers easy access to popular, local activities and attractions such as interpretive hiking trails, waterfalls, breathtaking boating tours, and wildlife viewing points. You and your furry friend can spend your days exploring the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the Grand Island, grilling hot dogs in the evening and sleeping under a star-filled sky away from the city noise. The campground is very popular with divers that come from all across the country to explore the Alger Underwater Preserve shipwrecks or the Miner’s Castle. 

The rustic campground offers approximately 50 private, first-come-first-served sites, although there are a few that can be booked in advance as well. All of the campsites are $20 per night and come with their own picnic tables and fire rings. The sites are spacious and well-shaded, some of them are surrounded by mature trees while others are located right by the crystal-clear lake. The sites offer a great place to do some outdoor yoga or simply meditate while sitting back on one of the many strategically placed benches with your pupper by your side. 

The campground features well-maintained and stocked vault toilets. Despite all the fun they will be having, pooches will not get parched at the Bay Furnace Campground as drinking water is available on-site. Patrons will also find a dump station and trash receptacles spread across the campground that help keep the grounds clean and poop-free. Please pack doggie waste bags and clean up after your pawed buddy during your wilderness stay. The campground features a large picnic area that is located on a partially rocky-sandy beach, with plenty of seating options, grills, water, and restrooms. Bay Furnace Campground is a prime spot for a family get-together or a friend reunion, especially since it offers stunning views of sunsets melting into Lake Superior.
