Along with mountains, nearby you will also find Bear Lake and Blue Lake, which are favorite spots for swimming and fishing. Cuchara River runs through the campground as well. The Spanish Peaks Wilderness is a great spot for hiking, and both nearby towns La Veta and Cuchara are great for restaurants and shopping.
In Bear Lake Campground, the 14 camping sites are rustic and have a fire ring and a table for cooking and eating your meals. You have the option of both sunny and shaded spots, so you can pick which area is best for your needs. Firewood is for sale from the camp host, pit toilets are available, and drinking water can be obtained as well. You will not have access to hookups, electric showers, or WiFi.
Fishing, hiking, walking trails, and bird and animal watching are all popular activities at this campground. The most popular time to visit the site is from June to September during peak season, but you can still walk in between September and October as well.
Dogs are more than welcome to come with you as well, but you will need to bring your own poop bags to clean up after your dog does their business. Discard the bags when you leave the campground so you can keep the site and the surrounding area clean and sanitary for other guests. Always make sure your pooch has a cool place to rest and lots of fresh water to keep them hydrated.
Overall, Bear Lake Campground is a quintessential Colorado camping experience with few amenities, but beautiful, scenic views. You and your pup will love hiking and exploring the area!
