The campground is nestled amongst beautiful pine and eucalyptus trees close to Mt. Orizaba, one of the tallest peaks in all of Catalina. From the campground, you have full views of the Pacific Ocean and the rolling hills in the area. The campground is also in the interior of the island, so your camping spot will be quiet and tranquil without much noise or disturbances. You must either hike ten miles to the campground or take the safari bus to the camping location. The island is known for its rocky nature, seaweed beaches, rolling hills, unique plant life and vegetation, and ocean access. Some of the most popular activities in the area include hiking, swimming, biking, nature walking, relaxing, birding, and spending time emerged in nature.
At the campground, amenities offered are fresh drinking water and restrooms - but that's about it. There is a BBQ and fire ring area, but this is the only place you are allowed to build a fire. Trash cans are located throughout the grounds as well.
Dogs are allowed at the campground, but they must strictly wear their leash at all times as dogs are never permitted to roam free due to the sensitive plant life on the island. You must clean up after your dog and throw poop bags away in the trash cans at the campground. There is little shade at the campsites, so make sure you provide a cool and shady place for your dog to relax during the day and make sure fresh drinking water is always available for them.
Overall, Black Jack Campground is a beautiful camping experience that will be nothing like you have experienced before, From the island camping vibe to the remote and tranquil location, you cannot go wrong with this unique spot.
