If you're looking for a rugged camping experience in the Tahoe National Forest, the Boyington Mill Campground could be the one for you! This 12-site campground is located near Truckee, California, and it's usually open from May to September, but may be closed sooner or open longer depending on the weather. Bring your dog along for your trip to Boyington Mill, but always keep them on a leash and clean up after them during your stay.
Campsites at Boyington Mill are quite close together, and there's little vegetation surrounding each spot. This means you won't have much privacy from your neighbors, and there also isn't much shade on hot days. What makes this location so special, however, is that you're situated right along the Little Truckee River. Anglers can experience some of California's best fly-fishing right out of the entrance of their tents, and that certainly makes up for the lack of shade and privacy.
Boyington Mill has a variety of convenient amenities, and anything that isn't on-site can be found within ten miles. Each campsite is equipped with a fire ring, a grill, and a picnic table -- perfect for cooking and serving your catch of the day! If you need firewood, there's a vendor within a mile of the campsite, but if you're camping after Labor Day, be advised there may be no wood available. Black bears frequent the area around Boyington Mill, so be sure to implement bear safety practices during your stay, and store all food and waste properly.
When you visit Boyington Mill, you'll need to pack lots of H2O for you and your pooch because there's no drinking water on-site. If you'd like to make the 30-minute drive to Lake Tahoe, you'll find great shopping and dining options, but there's also a general store with other supplies less than ten miles away on Hirschdale Road.
While fishing and hiking opportunities surround your campsite at Boyington Mill, the Boca Reservoir is six miles from the campground and the Stampede Reservoir is 12 miles from the campground. Both locations have excellent boating and swimming facilities.
You and your dog will love escaping big city life during your stay at Boyington Mill Campground!Â
